This is a first apparently since the cameras were installed. I won’t spoil it. Just watch.

Good. Good. I enjoy instant punishment for running a red light.

Runs red, decabitated and de-exhausted, not bad

IM SORRY THAT'S TOO BIG A REVELATION FOR ME TO NOT SPOIL DAMNIT

Overheight warning never came on. That's a flaw.

It’s lit in both videos, just about the time the traffic signal goes yellow.

I love the new sensor not only tells people they’re being stupid, but it also guarantees they’re going to run a red light.

Speaking as someone who has driven some very long, very heavy vehicles I will say (as a general statement not necessarily pertaining to the video) that sometimes the safer option IS to run the red

Not Ryder, Penske, or Enterprise this time. Nice to see some diversity.

Still gotta draw the line somewhere though . How red is too red?

I wonder if the shock knocked the phones out of their hands.

And he completely blew though the red light.

I’m pretty sure the traffic signal goes yellow specifically because the overheight vehicle was detected.

No consistent answer. Depends on speed, weight of the load, balance of the load, etc. Ultimately it comes down to a judgement call from the driver. They best know their safe stopping distance and whether they can successfully get it stopped before the intersection without jackknifing/
damaging the load or if they need to just get on the horn and run it.

Depends on the signal too, doesn’t it? I’ve heard that some areas have been found to have awfully short yellows and hardly any all-red phase to speak of.

The only difference the duration of the yellow makes is to whether you just run it, or run it while blasting the horn. It doesn’t matter whether it’ll just be turning red as I’m entering the intersection or if it will be red for 3
seconds before I get there, if I feel I can’t safely stop the vehicle in the distance I have available I’m going through the light. Stop when you can, blow it when you have to. Plain and simple.

I think there’s more to it than that.
(BTW, I hope you know I mean no offense. I actually think that running red lights and even stop signs can be defensible under certain conditions. It’s a fascinating topic, and since you see m to ha ve had a chance to put more thought into this than I have , particularly regarding he avy trucks , I figured I’d poke you with a stick to see what you’ve managed to come up w i th on the matter . I wonder if you might be interested in making a separate post about it sometime. Besides, it looks like Kinja’s r eally having a field day with your comments tonight... )

Know the dimensions of your commerical vehicle that you drive for money, or consider a career in basket-weaving.

It came on, and the light turned red too. The dude just blasted right through it.

Yep, even if it didn’t come on (it did), someone with a CDL needs to be on top of things enough to know how tall their vehicle is. I can understand some person who normally drives a Civic, but has rented a ‘26 box truck slipping up (though it’s nuts that we allow people to drive vehicles that big without additional training), but if this is your job, you definitely shouldn’t make this mistake.

They've made so many changes to that intersection over the years, but you can't fix stupid.
